Basement Beginnings to Big Box Breakthroughs: Bonjour Fête Graduates

Bonjour Fête was born out of a simple frustration: Why was it so hard to find modern, curated party supplies together in one place? In 2014, while living in Montreal, Rachel Huntington found herself scouring different shops and websites trying to plan her daughter’s birthday—and realizing the party supply space was missing something fresh, curated, and elevated. So, she began sourcing products from the U.S., Australia, and Europe, and not long after, Bonjour Fête (“Hello Party”) came to life, first in the basement of her home and later as a brick-and-mortar boutique in Los Angeles.

Building a Boutique Brand in a Big Box World

When we opened our first store in Studio City in 2017, large, impersonal party stores still dominated the retail landscape. We set out to create something entirely different: a boutique experience focused on thoughtful design, premium products, and personal connection. Studio City in Los Angeles quickly became a hub for celebration-seekers looking for unique party supplies, and our community embraced the idea of elevated everyday entertaining.

As demand grew, so did we—spreading our Parisian party presence in Studio City and then opening locations in Pacific Palisades and beyond, each store carefully styled to be as joyful and curated as the products we carry. In-person connection remained at the heart of everything we did, even as the retail world changed around us. Over the years, we've had the joy of building deeply personal relationships with our customers—celebrating everything from weddings to baby showers, first birthdays, and all of life’s lovely milestones. Being a part of these meaningful moments is one of the most rewarding aspects of what we do.

Challenges, Growth, and Adaptation

The COVID-19 pandemic brought unforeseen challenges. Like many small businesses, we faced the uncertainty of closed storefronts. But one thing was clear—people still wanted to celebrate. From at-home holidays to drive-by birthdays, the need for moments of joy persisted. We pivoted quickly, expanding our e-commerce operation and eventually opening a warehouse in Salt Lake City, UT to keep up with the growing demand.

As we evolved, we started listening more closely to what customers wanted. We realized there was a massive gap in the market for party products that felt (literally and figuratively) modern and elevated—offering more than just the basic, low-quality disposable items available. That insight led us to begin developing our own product line: premium paper goods thoughtfully designed for customers who wanted practicality and beauty without compromise. We aimed to identify opportunities where competitors stumbled, creating party supplies that combine functionality with timeless elegance, suitable for both children's and adult parties, while embracing a modern vision of commercial themes, like Harry Potter, Elf the Movie, and Thomas the Train.

In 2024, after months of development, our first container of signature products landed. Bonjour Fête officially launched its wholesale line with over 250 SKUs, spanning everyday celebrations, holidays, and commercial partyware. This marked a turning point: what started in a basement had grown into a brand with global distribution and an upcoming presence in one of the country’s most influential retailers.

Bonjour Fête x Target: Making Premium Partyware Accessible

In mid-2024, Target approached us to collaborate on something special. They wanted a graduation collection that felt elevated but approachable—products that could be used across all ages. It was the perfect partnership. We brought the same design-forward, high-quality approach that built our boutique brand to the big-box space.

Resilience in the Face of Setbacks

Just as we celebrated these milestones, 2025 brought unexpected heartbreak. Our flagship store in the Pacific Palisades—the physical space where customers could experience the magic of Bonjour Fête firsthand—was devastated in the Palisades Fire. While the loss of the store was deeply emotional, it reaffirmed something we’ve always believed: celebrating life’s moments matters. Our focus turned to rebuilding and continuing to bring that magic to our community, whether online, in-store, or through partnerships like Target.

Looking Ahead

From our humble beginnings to our expansion this April into national retail, one thing has remained constant: our mission to offer a thoughtfully curated celebration experience, wherever our customers are. We exist because our clients love to celebrate, and in turn, we love to celebrate them! We are deeply grateful to the communities and customers who have supported Bonjour Fête and are excited for what lies ahead.

To us, it’s never just about party supplies—it’s about helping people celebrate life's moments beautifully and meaningfully.
